Our naturopathic doctors

Three doctors, one way of working

Dr. Erin Edmonds, Dr. Lauren MacIntosh and Dr. Sarah Park are licensed naturopathic doctors. Their first appointment with you is an hour or more, because the point is to understand what is driving a problem before treating it — with nutrition, botanicals, targeted supplements, acupuncture, lab testing and, where it fits, IV and injection therapies.

Naturopathic medicine combines modern science with natural therapies to treat the person, not the symptom. Our NDs take the time to hear the whole story — sleep, stress, food, history, what has already been tried — and build a plan you can actually live with.

Principles

Six things every ND practises by

The profession's founding principles. They sound simple; they change how an appointment goes.

01

First, do no harm

The gentlest, least invasive therapy that will do the job.

02

The body can heal

Given the right support, it usually does. The doctor's job is to remove what is in the way.

03

Find the cause

Symptoms are the clue, not the diagnosis.

04

Doctor as teacher

You leave understanding your own health well enough to look after it.

05

Treat the whole person

Physical, emotional, genetic, environmental — it all counts.

06

Prevention

Prevention first: staying well is easier than getting well.

What we treat

What our NDs can help with

Our doctors run general practices — they see the whole range of what walks in, from one stubborn symptom to a wish to feel properly well rather than just okay.

Stress, anxiety & burnout
Thyroid health & metabolism
Fertility, pregnancy & postpartum support

What to expect

01

Listen and understand

A long first conversation: history, symptoms, lifestyle and what you want to be different.

02

Test where it helps

Targeted labs — hormones, thyroid, nutrients, food sensitivities, microbiome — only when they will change the plan.

03

Treat and support

A plan built for you from nutrition, botanicals, supplements, acupuncture, and sleep and stress work.

Advanced therapies

Advanced therapies our NDs also offer

Treatments beyond the usual, for when the usual is not enough.

Intravenous (IV) therapy

IV therapy puts nutrients straight into the bloodstream, bypassing digestion and the liver's first pass. It is useful when the gut cannot absorb well, when levels are very low, or when a higher dose is needed than tablets can deliver.

Ozone therapy

Ozone (O3) is an activated form of oxygen. In controlled medical doses it is used for pain, circulation, immune support and infection. Your ND will explain whether it fits your situation.

Regenerative injection therapies

Prolotherapy: injections that stimulate repair in ligaments and tendons, for pain from conditions such as degenerative disc disease and tendinopathy.

Neural prolotherapy: perineural injections that calm irritated nerves — often the missing piece in chronic pain and old injuries.

NAD+ therapy

NAD+ is a coenzyme every cell uses to make energy and repair DNA, and levels fall with age and with stress. IV NAD+ replaces it directly.

People use it for brain fog, energy, recovery and general cellular health. It is a longer appointment and your ND will talk you through it first.

Whether IV, ozone, NAD+ or injection therapy fits you is a conversation for the first appointment — none of it is a first step.

Your Visit

What to expect

  • Before the first visit you fill in a detailed intake form, so the appointment starts with your story rather than your paperwork.
  • The appointment itself is a long conversation about symptoms, food, stress, sleep and history.
  • You leave with a plan. Lab testing or supplements are suggested only where they will actually change something.
  • Follow-ups check what has changed and adjust the plan as you go.
  • Virtual appointments are available anywhere in Nova Scotia.

Questions

Good to know

The questions we get asked most at the desk.

What's the difference between an ND and an MD?

Naturopathic doctors focus on prevention and on the cause of a problem, using natural, evidence-informed therapies and longer appointments. Many patients see both an ND and an MD; the two work well together.

Do you offer direct billing?

Yes. We bill most major insurers directly. Bring your benefits card and photo ID to the first visit.

How long is the initial appointment?

Sixty to seventy-five minutes. That is deliberate.

Can I combine naturopathic care with other services at Luminate?

Yes, and they often do. Our NDs work in the same building as our chiropractor, physiotherapists, massage therapists and acupuncturist, and refer between them.

Do you see pediatric or family patients?

Yes. Our doctors see individuals and families of all ages, babies included.

Are virtual appointments available?

Yes. Virtual appointments are available anywhere in Nova Scotia.

Next step

We're here when you're ready.

A symptom that will not shift, or a wish to feel properly well — our naturopathic doctors see both. Book online any time.
