What a chip means

  • The maker says so

    A claim on the label, in the product name or description, or across the brand's whole range. This is the basis for every allergen page and every certification.

  • The ingredient list agrees

    We read the ingredients on every product. A product whose label and ingredients disagree is held back until we have checked it with the maker.

  • Whole foods count

    For vegan, plant-based and no added sugar, a clean ingredient list is enough: lentils are vegan whether or not the bag says so. Allergen pages never use this shortcut.

  • You still read the package

    Based on the maker's label. If you have an allergy, check the package, and call us if you are unsure. Bulk bins share scoops, so nothing from bulk appears on the allergen pages.

How do you decide which diet a product fits?

From what the maker says: on the label, in the product name, in the description, or across the brand's whole range (every Schär product is gluten-free, for example). For vegan, plant-based and no added sugar we also read the ingredient list, so a bag of lentils counts as vegan even when the label does not say so. Allergen pages (gluten-, dairy-, nut- and soy-free) never rely on that kind of inference: the maker has to say it, or the allergen statement has to leave the allergen out.

Can I trust these lists if I have an allergy?

Use them to narrow the search, then read the package. Makers change recipes and facilities, and our bulk bins share scoops and space, so nothing from bulk is listed on the allergen pages. If you are unsure, call either store and we will read the label with you.

Can I filter a category by diet?

Yes. Open any category and use the Diet filter in the sidebar, or search and filter the results. Product pages show every diet chip, and each chip links to its page.

Do you deliver in Halifax?
