Direct billing in Nova Scotia: naturopath, massage and physio visits without the paperwork

A lot of people searching for a naturopath, massage therapist or physiotherapist in Halifax are really asking one question: will I have to pay up front and chase a receipt? At the Luminate Co clinic in Bedford, for most extended health plans, no. We bill your insurer directly while you are at the desk.

How it works

1. Bring your benefits card and photo ID to your first visit.
2. We check whether your plan allows direct billing and submit the claim before you leave.
3. You pay only the part your plan does not cover. If your plan covers 80 percent, you pay 20 at the desk. Nothing more, and no reimbursement cheque to wait for.

Every treatment and claim stays on file if you or your insurer ever need it.

Canada Life, Great West Life, Chambers of Commerce, Desjardins, Equitable Life, Green Shield, Industrial Alliance, Manulife, Medavie Blue Cross, Pacific Blue Cross, People Corporation, RBC Health Insurance, RSA, RWAM, SSQ, Sun Life, Union Benefits and Telus Adjudicare. If yours is not listed, ask; the list keeps growing. You can also send your insurer and plan number through the form on the direct billing page and we will confirm before you book.

Which services

Direct billing applies across the clinic: naturopathic medicine, registered massage therapy, physiotherapy and pelvic health physiotherapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, osteopathy, manual lymphatic drainage and lactation consulting. Whether a given service is covered depends on your plan, not on us, so check your booklet or ask us to look.

Where the clinic is

The clinic is inside the Bedford store at 486 Starboard Drive, with its own entrance, and serves patients from across Halifax, Bedford, Sackville and Dartmouth. A Dartmouth clinic is planned for spring 2027. Appointments are booked online through Jane or by phone at (902) 835-9319.

Do I need a referral?

Not to book. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor's note before they will cover massage or physiotherapy; your plan booklet will say.
