Five registered massage therapists, one standard
Emily Walsh, Emily Mathisen, Aletha Demond, Kilby Curran and Melissa MacIntosh are all Registered Massage Therapists. Between them they cover deep tissue, relaxation, prenatal, sports and TMJ work — and they will tell you plainly which one you need. Sessions are 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes.
Kinds of massage
Tell us what is going on and we will match you to the right kind — or the right therapist.

Therapeutic and deep tissue
Focused, clinical work on overworked muscles: chronic tension, restricted movement, the knot that never leaves.

Relaxation
Slower, flowing work that settles the nervous system. For stress, poor sleep, or a week that got away from you.

Prenatal and postnatal
Safe, supported positioning through every stage of pregnancy and recovery — for back pain, swelling and plain exhaustion.

Sports
For people who train. Recovery between sessions, prevention before the injury, and work on what is already sore.
Two specialised treatments
Beyond the usual table work, two treatments people ask for by name.
Therapeutic facial massage
Slow, deliberate work on the face, jaw and neck. Eases tension and puffiness, helps lymphatic drainage, and is quietly one of the most relaxing things we do.
TMJ (jaw) massage
For clenching, grinding and jaw pain. Works the muscles of the face, neck and jaw, inside and out, to reduce headaches and let the jaw move freely again.
What massage actually does
Four things we see change in people who come regularly.
Tension goes
Tight muscles release, knots let go, and the ache you have been carrying eases.
Stress drops
An hour where nothing is asked of you. Most people sleep better that night.
Circulation improves
Better blood flow and lymphatic drainage, which is what tissue needs to heal.
Recovery speeds up
Whether it is a training block or an injury, the body bounces back faster with regular work.
What to expect
Straightforward from the first form to the follow-up.
Intake and goals
A short health history, then a conversation about what you want from the session.
No surprises
Your therapist explains positioning and draping before anything starts, and answers whatever you want to ask.
Your treatment
Pressure, pace and focus are adjusted to you. Say so at any point and it changes.
Afterwards
A stretch or two to take home, and a sense of when it makes sense to come back.
A calm place to be worked on
The clinic has its own entrance beside the Bedford store, so it is quiet even when the market is busy.

The front desk
You will be greeted by name by the second visit.

Treatment rooms
Private, warm and quiet, with the table set up for you before you walk in.
What we can help with
The reasons people book most often.

Good to know
Do you offer direct billing?
Yes. We bill most major insurers directly for massage therapy. Bring your benefits card to your first visit.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
Not to book. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor's note before they'll cover treatment, so check yours.
Are your therapists registered?
Yes. Every massage therapist at Luminate is a Registered Massage Therapist.
What kinds of massage do you offer?
Deep tissue, relaxation, prenatal and sports massage. Tell us what you're coming in for when you book and we'll match you with the right RMT.
How long is a session?
30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes — you choose when you book.
What should I wear?
Whatever's comfortable. You undress to your own comfort level and are draped with a sheet the whole time; only the area being worked on is uncovered.
Is massage safe in pregnancy?
Our RMTs offer prenatal massage. Tell us how far along you are when you book so we can set the table up properly.
Massage Therapy is offered at our clinic in Bedford, Halifax — 486 Starboard Drive. Direct billing to most insurers.
