Most grocery stores have an organic corner in the produce section. We did it the other way round: the entire produce department at both stores is certified organic, so there is nothing to compare, and nothing to second-guess.
Nova Scotia first, in season
When the Annapolis Valley is growing it, that is what is on the table: greens, berries, apples, roots and herbs from farms we know by name. Out of season we fill in from certified organic suppliers. Either way the standard is the same.
What you will find
Around 110 lines at any time: vegetables, fruit, fresh herbs, mushrooms, and a frozen organic fruit and vegetable section for smoothies and soups. It changes with the harvest, so the produce page is a guide to what is in the store today rather than a fixed list.
Fresh means in store, or same-day
Produce is the one department we do not ship in a box. You can buy it in Bedford or Dartmouth, or add it to a Luminate Express order and it is picked from the shelf the morning it is delivered. Order by 11 am for delivery that afternoon anywhere in HRM; fridge and freezer items travel cold.
Why all organic
It is simpler for you and it keeps us honest. A single standard across the department means the produce buyer is choosing on freshness and flavour, not on which label sells. It also fits the rest of the market, where every product on the shelf has been read and chosen by someone who works here.
Hours
Both stores are open Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 8:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 6 pm. Produce deliveries arrive through the week, so mid-week mornings are the best time for the widest choice.
