The easiest good Christmas gift in Halifax is one thing made close to home, picked for the person, with a couple of small extras around it. We carry more than 100 Atlantic Canadian vendors at Luminate Co in Bedford and Dartmouth, so most of this list is one shopping trip away, or delivered across HRM the same day.
We've grouped the local makers people ask us about most by who you're shopping for. After that you'll find gift basket ideas, stocking stuffers and advent calendars, and what to know about delivery before the busiest weeks of the season.
For the person who loves a cozy night in
Lawrencetown Candle Co. hand-pours its soy candles in small batches in East Lawrencetown, right by the beach. Circle & Wick started with two friends making candles in Dartmouth, and their 9 oz jars are made in Atlantic Canada.

For the cook, the baker and the host
Cosman & Whidden honey is unpasteurized Nova Scotia honey from fruit blossom, clover and wildflowers. The creamed honey is the giftable one, and there's a 500 g liquid jar for the person who bakes. The Halifax Honey Co.'s Stingin' Hot Honey is Nova Scotia wildflower honey with pickled chillies, a safe bet for the friend who puts hot sauce on everything.
A little farther along the coast, Wabanaki comes from an Indigenous, female-owned business in New Brunswick. Pair any of these with a jar of HardyWares jam, handmade in Nova Scotia.

Peace by Chocolate, the Antigonish chocolate maker, pairs dark chocolate with Nova Scotia wild blueberries in its Nova Scotia Bar, and there are bars for New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador too. They move quickly in December, so check availability online or ask us before you make a special trip. For sharing, Tony's Chocolonely bars are a big 180 g.

Beauty From Bees Body Serum is a waterless moisturizer you smooth on in the shower. Sweet Vanilla is scented with vanilla, lavender and a little grapefruit, and there's an unscented version if you're not sure about fragrance. Advent calendars and stocking stuffers
Advent calendars start on December 1, so buy one in November and it's home before the first door.

For stockings, think small and useful. Muskoka Tallow's Sensitive Body Whip has three ingredients (grass-fed tallow, organic olive oil and calendula) and no essential oils. It isn't vegan, which matters for some people. A seed card is a nice small extra, and when you really don't know, a gift card lets them choose from produce, bulk, body care and the supplement aisle.

How to build a wellness gift basket
A gift basket works best when it's built around what the person already enjoys: their tea, their breakfast, the scent they actually like.
- Pick one centre item. Add two or three things that go with it, and stop there.
- Ask before you guess. Check for food allergies, dietary needs and scent preferences. If you can't find out, choose a candle you've smelled or an unscented body product.
- Keep the labels. Leave food in its original packaging so ingredients, allergen statements and best-before dates stay with it.
- Write a real note. "For slow Sunday mornings" says more than a long card. Skip promises about what a product will do for them.
Three good things look more generous than eight random ones.
Here are three combinations from our shelves:
| Basket | Centre item | Add | Ships across Canada? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slow morning | Just Us! French Decaf | Cosman & Whidden creamed honey, HardyWares jam | Yes |
| Bath and bedtime | Beauty From Bees Body Serum | Anointment Holiday Spice soap, Circle & Wick candle | Yes |
| Host gift | Halifax Honey Co. hot honey | Wabanaki maple syrup, Lawrencetown candle | Yes |
Leave supplements out of the surprise
Vitamins and herbs depend on someone's health, medications and preferences. Unless they've asked for a specific product, pick something else. And if you add cheese or anything else from the fridge, that basket is for pickup or HRM delivery only.
Finish with a Jill + Jack seed card instead of a regular one. It's printed on plantable wildflower seed paper, so the card turns into flowers in spring.

Questions we get a lot
What's a good gift from Nova Scotia?
Something made here that the person will use: a Lawrencetown or Circle & Wick candle, Cosman & Whidden honey, Halifax Honey Co. hot honey or a Peace by Chocolate bar. All of these travel well if you're mailing a gift out of province.
What should I put in a wellness gift basket?
One centre item they'll love, such as a body serum, a good coffee or a candle, plus two or three things that go with it. Keep food in its original packaging and leave supplements out unless they've asked for something specific.
Do you sell pre-made gift baskets?
We don't list ready-made hampers online. Most people build their own from individual products, and our staff at either store are happy to help you choose around a budget.
Can I send a gift to someone in Halifax the same day?
Yes, with Luminate Express. Order by 11 am for delivery between 2:30 and 6 pm the same day in most of HRM.
Are Beauty From Bees products in stock at both stores?
We carry a wide Beauty From Bees range, including body serums, shampoos and lip serums. Stock can vary between Bedford and Dartmouth, so check the product page or call the store before you go.
Not sure what to get them?
Tell us a little about the person and a rough budget at either store, and we'll help you put something together.
You'll find these gifts at Luminate Co Wellness Market, 486 Starboard Drive in Bedford (just off Larry Uteck Boulevard) and 590 Portland Street in Dartmouth. Both stores are open Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 8:30 pm and weekends 9 am to 6 pm, with parking out front. The rest of our East Coast makers are in the Atlantic Canadian made collection, and orders over $80 ship free anywhere in Canada.
