Brewer's yeast is a by-product of beer making. After Saccharomyces cerevisiae has done its fermenting, the yeast is separated from the beer, roller dried and debittered, leaving a powder with naturally occurring protein and several B vitamins. NOW's version is inactive, so it will not raise bread.

It has a savoury, slightly bitter flavour that works stirred into smoothies, juice, milk or cereal, or shaken into soups, gravies and baking. Some natural colour variation is normal. Note that it contains wheat.
