Kato Matcha Bamboo Whisk (Chasen)

The Kato Matcha Whisk is a traditional bamboo chasen, the tool used in Japan to whisk powdered matcha into hot water. The fine bamboo tines break up clumps and whip the tea into the smooth, foamy cup that a spoon or a milk frother never quite manages.

Sift a little matcha into a bowl, add hot (not boiling) water and whisk briskly in a zigzag until it froths. Rinse the whisk in warm water after each use and let it air dry, tines up, so it keeps its shape. A worthwhile upgrade if matcha is part of your daily routine.
