What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a complementary and integrative health approach focusing on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. It is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to health care that can be used to treat various conditions. It involves chiropractic adjustments, which are gentle manipulations of the joints and spine designed to improve function and relieve pain. Depending on the individual, treatment may include soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, and exercise prescription.

Chiropractic care is sometimes combined with other forms of treatment, such as massage therapy services, physiotherapy, or acupuncture.

At Luminate Co, we offer various chiropractic services, including spinal adjustments, extremity adjustments, soft tissue therapies, acupuncture, and exercise prescription. Our goal is to promote health, alleviate pain, and encourage healing. Whether you seek relief from pain or want to improve your overall health, we can help.

Our multidisciplinary clinic in Bedford is designed with comfort, privacy, and convenience in mind. Take the first step towards your chiropractic journey by contacting us today to schedule a consultation.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

To Maintain Overall Wellness

Chiropractic care is a good option for overall wellness, not just treating pain. Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper alignment of the spine and extremities, improving posture, balance, coordination, and range of motion. In addition, it’s an excellent way to reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost energy levels.

Our chiropractor will design a personalized treatment plan, considering your medical history, current lifestyle, and other factors.

Relief from Low Back Pain

Many factors can cause low back pain, including arthritis, osteoporosis, ruptured or bulging discs, muscle or ligament strain, etc. Studies show that chiropractic care can effectively treat acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain.

Relief from Headaches

Chiropractic care helps reduce certain types of headaches, especially migraines and cervicogenic headaches (CGH), where the pain source is usually the cervical spine.

Reduce Neck Pain

Neck pain occurs from certain conditions, including poor posture. Chiropractic care can help by reducing the pressure on the nerves and improving the range of motion in the neck. Evidence shows that chiropractic care can help relieve severe and sudden neck pain, especially if combined with other complementary medicine, such as massage and exercise.

Mid Back Pain

The mid-back, also known as the thoracic spine, is the region between the bottom of the rib cage and the top of the lumbar spine. It is a relatively strong and stable area but can still be susceptible to pain from certain conditions, such as muscle strain or arthritis. Chiropractic care can help by adjusting areas of restriction in the spine and providing exercises and stretches to help improve the range of motion.

Pain Relief from Extremity Conditions

Extremities refer to the arms and legs. Chiropractic care can effectively reduce pain, especially for shoulder girdle pain, lateral epicondylitis, adhesive capsulitis, hip and knee osteoarthritis, patellofemoral pain syndrome, and plantar fasciitis.

Our Chiropractic Treatment Approach

Initial Assessment History

Your journey to wellness begins with a first visit, wherein we will gather information about your health history and current condition and discuss your goals for treatment.

Our chiropractor may ask when the pain started, its location, what makes it better or worse, and other helpful questions. This helps them determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs and the root cause of your pain.

Physical Exam

After the consultation, our chiropractor will conduct a physical examination. This will help determine the cause of your pain and rule out any serious conditions that may be causing your pain. Depending on the case, we will test your range of motion, reflexes, and muscle strength and perform specific orthopedic tests.

Diagnosis

Once we have all the necessary details, we will design a customized treatment plan. This will depend on the type of pain you are experiencing, its severity, and your goals. We will explain the proposed treatment plan in detail and answer any questions.

Development of a Treatment Plan for Your Health and Wellness Goals

Your treatment plan may include spinal adjustments, extremity adjustments, soft tissue therapies, exercises, and stretches. We will create a program that focuses on achieving your health goals so that you can live a pain-free life.

Treatment

During this time, we ensure that you are comfortable and well-informed. Depending on your condition, we may ask you to come to our clinic 1 to 3 times a week for your sessions. Some patients also require fewer visits, such as once a month. As you progress, we will adjust the frequency and duration of your visits accordingly.

Follow-Up and Prevention

After completing all your sessions according to your treatment plan, you may continue with periodic visits to maintain your overall health and wellness. We also suggest you continue your home exercise program, such as stretches, as part of a prevention plan. In addition, we will advise you on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent injuries in the future.

Chiropractic Care: An Essential Part of Every Mother & Child’s Well-Being

At Luminate Co, our chiropractor, Dr. Justine Landry has a passion for caring for expecting mothers, new mothers, and babies.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is very safe and effective. Regular chiropractic care can help expecting mothers be more comfortable and healthy during one of the most important times in their lives. Gentle chiropractic adjustments help ensure proper pelvic alignment, nerve supply to the uterus, and ideal positioning of the baby.

Prenatal Care

Our chiropractor, Dr Justine Landry, specializes in prenatal care, which focuses on relieving common pregnancy-related discomforts, which may include things like lower back pain,  hip & pelvic pain, sciatica, pubic bone pain, upper shoulder & neck tension, joint discomforts, difficulty performing daily tasks, discomfort while sleeping, and pain while getting up from a seated position.

Chiropractic care also helps reposition your baby by working on pelvic alignments as well as the pelvic region’s muscles and ligaments to decrease intrauterine constraints. This means your baby will have plenty of room to move around, allowing for an easier and healthier delivery.

THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE

Developed by Dr. Larry Webster more than 35 years ago, the Webster Technique has become a familiar term in conversations surrounding pregnancy and birth.  Families are increasingly seeking out chiropractors who are proficient in this technique as a way to support a more comfortable birth experience.  The Webster technique is clinically observed to be associated with improved pregnancy outcomes.

The Webster Technique aims to reduce biomechanical stress to the ligaments and joints of the woman’s spine and pelvis during her pregnancy.  It is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment (treatment) that balances maternal pelvic joints, muscles and ligaments in order to better support uterine function.  Ultimately, the Webster Technique encourages optimal fetal positioning and allows for a safer, easier birth.

The Webster Technique is NOT a breech baby turning technique.

Chiropractors do not turn breech babies!  As pelvic balance is achieved through The Webster Technique, this creates a more functional environment which may or may not facilitate the baby’s ability to assume the desired position while in utero.  The International Chiropractic Paediatric Association (ICPA) does not endorse the use of The Webster Technique for fetal mal-position or in utero-constraint.

Dr. Justine Landry has additional training, and expertise in this area, and is certified in The Webster Technique..

Post Partum Care

After childbirth, your body undergoes tremendous physical changes in a very short period. Our chiropractic adjustments can treat the trauma to help your body recover from your childbirth experience.

When a woman gets pregnant, her body releases a hormone called relaxin, which helps loosen the ligaments and muscles in her pelvic area. This helps her body accommodate the growing baby and prepare for childbirth. Relaxin remains in the body for several months after delivery, which may cause joint instability and discomfort.

Through gentle adjustments, our practitioners can correct misalignments in the spine and pelvis, relieving pain, helping you be more comfortable and preventing long-term issues.

Pediatrics

Our pediatric chiropractic services focus on improving overall health and wellness while relieving common childhood illnesses like sinus congestion, digestive issues, earaches, colic, allergies, and reflux, all supporting a better quality of life.

Other benefits of pediatric chiropractic care include the following:

1.Improving their sleep

2.  Boosting their immune system

3. Reducing their risk of injury

4. Boosting their brain development

Chiropractic Care FAQs

The number of sessions you require depends on the reason for your treatment, its severity, and your goals. Most patients see a significant improvement after just a few sessions, but many factors play into your care plan.

In general, chiropractic treatment is safe. In very rare cases, it may cause complications, such as increased pain or nerve damage. This may likely occur if a chiropractor is inexperienced or uses too much force. Always see a qualified and licensed chiropractor to reduce the risk of serious complications.

The most common side effect of chiropractic care is soreness or aching in the treatment area. This is often mild and goes away within 24 hours. Some people may also experience fatigue, headaches, or dizziness after a session. These side effects are usually temporary and will resolve on their own.

Contact your insurance provider to ask if your plan covers chiropractic care. Here at Luminate Co Wellness Centre, we offer direct billing if your plan accepts it. .
