Shilajit is a microbially digested plant and mineral matter, that has incubated under high pressure for tens of thousands to millions of years. As the Earth shifted through seismic and geological reorganization, organic matter folded upon itself, trapping minerals between its layers. Eventually, the magnetized minerals made their way out through rock crevices.
The medicine men of the Himalayas became aware of Shilajit by watching animals, particularly white monkeys, living in the areas where the shilajit arose out of the rock strata.
One species of monkey in particular, those at the top of the mountain, were strong, virile, agile, and more communal, while the monkeys in the lower region of the mountain were more sickly, slower, and discordant.
The monkeys at the top of the mountain consumed the mineral pitch (shilajit), while the monkeys below did not have access to it. Based on these findings, these ancient healers began incorporating Shilajit into the medicinal repertoire of their regions.
Shilajit Extraction Process
The purification process for our shilajit follows a traditional Ayurvedic 'purification' method where Triphala powder (a blend of three fruit powders: Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki) is used first to remove impurities. During this process, the raw rocks are heated in the presence of Triphala which forces the tar to move to the top. This 'purified' tar is then skimmed off and filtered to remove any residues.The next refining step is a cold water extraction conducted under high pressure which removes all fibers, including those from remaining from the triphala powder, and concentrates the fulvic acid, the known active ingredient.
